Crystal Xcelsius

I got an opportunity to learn about a tool called Xcelsius. It's been a wonderful experience so far. This tool lets you create handy dashboards in less time. The tool is very useful for those who work in Data Ware Housing and would like to create a presentation out of their data. Designing a visualization is very simple and requires no analytical skills. It generates a interactive Flash movie of the presentation which can be easily shared by mail.

Prerequisites for using this tool are,

• Knowledge in spreadsheets and cell formulas.
• XML and Web services (If you want to show dynamic data in your presentation)

Flash knowledge is not required. The tool generates the flash movie and Actionscript based on our design using the underlying data model (spreadsheet). Excel is used only in the design time for defining the data model.

For a demonstration, I've created a visualization which compares popularity of the inputted terms. The logic is implemented in a ASP.Net web service, which makes use of the Google SOAP Search API to find the number of result pages for a search query.

The visualization invokes the web service and gets back the XML data containing number of result pages for each of the inputted terms. The web service is hosted on a free hosting site. So this will be available only for next 30 days (till Sep 8).

Number of result pages is not a perfect measure for popularity. But by phrasing a search query for each of those terms, we can get an approximate picture of their popularity.

ஃபார்முலா ஒன் - நியூர்ன்பேர்க்

நேற்று ஜெர்மனியின் நியூர்ன்பேர்கில் நடந்த ரேஸ் மிக்க பரபரப்பாக இருந்தது. நேற்றய ரேஸை பார்த்திருந்தால், எஃப் - 1 விளையாட்டின் பெரும்பாலான சூட்சுமங்களை புரிந்திருக்கலாம்.

மொத்த வீரர்கள் 22. ரேஸின் போல் பொஸிஸன் இப்படியாக இருந்தது - ரேகனன்(1), அலோன்சோ(2), மாஸா(3), வெபர்(6), ரால்ஃப்(9) ஹாமில்டன்(10). ரேஸ் துவங்கும் போதே, 2 நிமிடத்தில் மழை வரப்போவதாக கணிக்கபட்டது. ரேஸ் தொடங்கி முதல் சுற்றிலேயே சாரல் விழத் தொடங்க, ஓடுதளம் ஈரமாக்கபட்டது. அனைத்து வண்டிகளும் ஈர டயர் மாற்றிகொள்ள பிற்றை நோக்கி சென்றன, ஒரே ஒருவரை தவிர.அவர் விங்கெல்ஹாக். அறிமுக ஆட்டக்காரரான இவர் சமயோசிதமாக செயல்பட்டு, ரேஸ் தொடங்கும் முன்பே ஈர டயருக்கு மாறிவிட்டார். அதனால் அவர் சுமார் 7 நொடிகளை சேமித்து முன்னால் சென்று கொண்டிருந்தார். ஈர டயருக்கு மாறிய பிற வண்டிகள், அவரை பின் தொடர்ந்தன. இப்படியே இரு சுற்றுகள் முடிய, மூன்றாவது சுற்றில் காத்திருந்தது ஆப்பு.

ஒரு வளைவில் மழை தண்ணீர் தேங்கி நின்றதால், வேகமாக வந்த வண்டிகள் ஓடுத்தளத்திலிருந்து சறுக்கிய படி வெளியே பாய்ந்தன. இதில் ஹாமில்டனும் சறுக்கினார். அனுபவ வீரர்கள் அந்த வளைவில் மெதுவாக வந்ததால் தப்பி முன்னேறினர்.

ஓடுதளம் சேதமானதால், சேஃப்டி கார் உள்ளே அழைக்கபட்டது. சேஃப்டி கார் தளத்தில் ஓடும் போது, அதையோ பிற வண்டிகளையோ முந்த கூடாது. ஆனால் தன் முன் செல்லும் வண்டிக்கும் தனக்கும் உள்ள லீட் தூரத்தை குறைத்து கொள்ள இது அரிய வாய்ப்பு.

ஸேஃப்டி கார்


சேஃப்டி கார் முன்னே செல்ல, விங்கெல்ஹாக் தொடர, மற்ற வண்டிகள் பின் தொடர்ந்தன. ஹாமில்டன் கிரேன் மூலம் தூக்கப்பட்டு, ஓடுதளத்தில் விடப்பட்டார். பிற சறுக்கிய வண்டிகள் ரேஸிலிருந்து வெளியேறின.

இப்போது 17 வண்டிகளே தளத்தில் உள்ளன. ஹாமில்டன் தான் கடைசி. சேஃப்டி கார், இரு சுற்றுகளை முடித்து விட்டு வெளியேற, ரேஸ் விட்ட இடத்திலிருந்து தொடங்கியது. ஓரிரு சுற்றுகள் முடிந்ததும், மழை நின்று தளம் காயத் தொடங்கியது. அந்தோ பரிதாபம், ஈர டயர் மாட்டியிருந்த வண்டிகள் காய்ந்த டயர் மாட்ட மீண்டும் பிற்றுக்கு சென்றன.

இப்போதய நிலை மாஸா(1), அலோன்சோ(2), வெபர்(3), ரேகனன்(14), ஹாமில்டன்(17).

லாப் 19-ல் ஒரு வளைவில் ரால்ஃபின் வண்டி மற்றொரு வண்டியுடன் உரசி ஒதுங்கியது. சொந்த மண்ணில் ரேஸ் முடிக்காமல் வெளியேறியது துரதிர்ஷ்டமே.

ரேகனன் கொஞ்சம் கொஞ்சமாக முன்னேற, 35-வது லாப்பில் இஞ்சின் பழுதடைந்து வெளியேறினார். ஹாட்ரிக் வாய்ப்பையும் தவற விட்டார்.

இப்படியே ரேஸ் போய்க்கொண்டிருக்க, ஹாமில்டன் மெதுவாக முன்னேறி 10-வது இடத்திற்கு வந்தார். 10 லாப்புகள் எஞ்சியிருக்க, மழையும் ரேசில் சேர்ந்தது. ஈர டயர் மாற்றிகொள்ள மீண்டும் பிற்றுக்கு சென்றன் வண்டிகள். மழை நீர் தேக்கத்தால், மாஸாவின் ஃபெராரி வண்டியை விடவும் அலோன்சோவின் மெக்லாரன் வண்டி வேகமாக சென்றது. இதனால் அலோன்சோவின் கை ஓங்கியது. அது வரை முன்னே சென்று கொண்டிருந்த, மாஸாவை ஒரு வளைவில் வைத்து முந்தினார்.

கடைசியில் பெய்த மழையே மாஸாவுக்கும் ஃபெராரிக்கும் எமனாக அமைந்தது.தொடர்ந்து 9 முறை போடியத்தில் நின்ற ஹாமில்டன், இம்முறை ஒரு புள்ளி கூட பெற முடியாமல் போனது.

அலோன்சோ முதலிடத்தை பிடிக்க, மாஸா இரண்டாமிடமும் ரெட் புல் அணியின் வெபர் மூன்றாமிடமும் வந்தார்கள்.

அடுத்த பாண்டு படத்தின் வெளியீட்டு தேதி அறிவித்துவிட்டார்கள். நவம்பர் 7, 2008 அன்று வரப் போகிறார் பாண்டு 22. ஆமா, இது தான் படத்தின் வொர்க்கிங் டைட்டில்.

லொள்ளு சபா - "புதுபேட்டை - Survival of the fittest"

விசய் தொலைக்காட்சியில் வரும் லொள்ளு சபாவின் தீவிர ரசிகன் நான். நீண்ட இடைவெளிக்குப் பின்னர் கடந்த பிப்ரவரி மாதத்திலிருந்து, மீண்டும் லொள்ளு சபா ஒளிபரப்பாகிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறது (வெள்ளி இரவு 9 மணி). முதல் வாரமே கலக்கி விட்டார்கள். புதுபேட்டை படத்தை அருமையாக கலாய்த்தார்கள். இந்த முறை வித்தியாசமான நகைச்சுவையை கையாண்டிருகிறார்கள். ஒரே மாதிரி உச்சரிக்கும்

ஜப்பானிய கில்லிகள் (Japanese Gilli's)

Some time back, I received a video shot during Diwali celebration in Japan(I believe so). I had just created an YouTube account and I uploaded this video. It went on to hit 1 Lac views in a short time. YouTube is really rocking with a huge user base. No wonder why Google acquired it for $1.65 Billion.

Coming back to the video content, really these Japanese (??? Somebody please help me to find out the real location, by interpreting some audience talks heard in this video) kids deserve a huge applause for their spectacular dance for this Tamil song.

I have also uploaded the original song from the Movie "Gilli". I would suggest you to watch the Movie dance and then go for the stage performance. You will fell the difference.

Miserable Career finishes

Often great sport professionals have ended their career on low. Kings and immortals of sports have experienced huge slumps at their career ends. Here is a list....

Needing 4 runs to keep his average in three digits, Don Bradman was out for duck in his final Test match. He had to end his career with an average of 99.94. To his bad luck, he didn't get a chance to bat in the second innings, as Australia tumbled England by innings defeat.

Michael Schumacher, the greatest F1 driver ever, couldn't win championship title in his final two years, thanks to the fantastic rise of Fernando Alonso and Renault.

Though having a successful streak of tennis career, Andre Agassi couldn't carry on till the end. He lost to a 112th ranked guy in his last match.



Ian Thorpe, the 5 times Olympic gold winner had to end his career in the wake of prolonged illness.

Having won three world titles, Mohamed Ali's last appearance is often viewed by the critics as the fight of deteriorated Ali. He then succumbed to Parkinson disease.

Mike Tyson , the undefeated baddest man on the planet was blessed with losses, bankruptcy, court cases during his career end. Interestingly Tyson's 6 losses (of 58 total fights) were at his career end.

There are many more entries for the first list, if you consider Tendulkars and Gangulies of India as Greats. They have spent most of their career in lows and survived for a longer period because of their rare shows. It is always good to retire at the times, when people ask "Why are you retiring?" before they start asking "When are you retiring?"

But uploading different images of mine produced different results. Doubting its inefficiency, I did a funny test by uploading a photo of young Einstein. To my surprise it matched it perfectly with the old-looked Einstein at 90% resemblance. This application is developed by an Israeli site called www.myheritage.com

When we studied in Anna university, the number of girl students was comparitively less beacause they didn't shine well in the entrance examination as they did in the public exam. (From this academic year this percentage will be more as the government has scrapped the entrance examination.)

Girls!! Excuse me. This is the truth.
